The Chemistry Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held a Visiting Professor event entitled “Misconceptions in Chemistry” featuring experts from the University of Münster, Germany, namely Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Barke and Dr. Hilde Wirbs, on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

This activity was specifically aimed at Chemistry Education Study Program students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts as an effort to provide new insights regarding various common misconceptions found in chemistry learning. Through this event, students are expected to understand how to identify and learn the right approaches to overcome these misconceptions.

The event, which took place from 10:30 to 12:30 WIB in Room 212 TBY, ran well and smoothly. In this presentation session, participants were also directly involved through the completion of specifically designed questions to identify misconceptions in their individual understanding of chemistry. The completion of these questions served as a meaningful reflection tool for all participants to measure the extent of their understanding of the chemistry concepts discussed by the speakers.

Through this Visiting Professor activity, the speakers and the Chemistry Education Study Program hope that participants can apply the new insights they have gained into their future chemistry learning processes. This event also serves as a concrete manifestation of providing meaningful understanding and learning experiences for students regarding the identification of misconceptions in the discipline of chemistry.
